ADIOS CANCUN!

We have arrived safely back in OC! We are happy to be home safe and sound, but we will miss Cancun. We had a blast! We ended up doing quite a bit, so we are going to break up our days into several posts. This way we can get all the details in. Here’s the first of many to come!

In our last post, we mentioned spending the day in Cozumel; however, due to a small tropical storm the harbor was closed. Instead, we enjoyed another day of relaxing and eating. The next couple of days were jam-packed with tours and activities.

[July 22-Tuesday] Our first adventure was a tour of Coba, an ancient Mayan city. We climbed the pyramid of Nohoch Mul. It is the tallest pyramid in Coba, and the tallest Mayan structure on the Yucatan Peninsula. It is 138 feet high with a 120-step stairway. Yes, we climbed all the way to the top! It was breath taking...literally! Next on the list was a 30 min. drive to a small Mayan village where we rode a zip-line over a lake of crocodiles-okay there was just one or two. Still, it was frightening for me, I screamed start to finish. Joel, on the other hand, loved every bit of it! Then we hiked to a cenote, a type of sinkhole containing groundwater used by the Mayans as their main water supply. We repelled down into the cenote and cruised on little inner tubes. After Joel decided to taste the water, we were told the water contained a significant amount of calcium (more than milk) and if consumed in large amounts we would get sick. Luckily, it was only a sip, so he was okay. Joel explored as I sat and hoped I would not fall off the tube. There were little catfish swimming about and boy did I make sure they stayed far away. We hiked back to the village and had lunch. Then we went kayaking. By this time we were pretty worn out so we cruised on some hammocks for a little bit. It was an amazing experience! That night we were not scheduled for a formal dinner, so we ate at the buffet. It was a black light show (they had characters from Nemo, Shrek, Madagascar and Toy Story who glowed in the dark). A lot of fun! One of the best shows.
